MY APPROACH TO CAPTURING YOUR DAY

My aim is to capture your day as it happens in a natural and unobtrusive way. I feel that it’s important to keep you and your guests at ease, so I take a minimal approach with kit, keep my distance and use my experience to help anticipate the moments – big and small. I don’t manufacture moments, but I know couples can feel uncomfortable when left in the dark during certain parts of your day, such as your couple session or bridal and groom portraits – so I will offer gentle prompts when appropriate.

My approach to cinematography is simplicity; harnessing my understanding of using natural light and cinematic compositions to frame your day in a way that elevates the storytelling, whilst keeping the focus on what matters the most: your story and your people.

COLLECTIONS

I have two packages, each offering two unique films. It’s not unusual for my couples to require a more bespoke approach, so if you feel like your wedding needs a tailored approach please let me know and we can discuss your exact requirements.

A completely original 1-minute edit, designed for Instagram and social media platforms. This video will be a way to share the highlights of your day online, whilst your longer film will contain the more intimate moments, giving you the option to share with your closest circle of family and friends.

In this film, you’ll re-live the full story of your day, capturing the small and large moments that unfold – from morning preparations through to the evening entertainment – using elements of your speeches and ceremony to form a narrative.

With a focus on combining both narrative and considered compositions, it will transport you back to your day and leave you with a timeless reminder of one of the most important days of your life.

The exact length of this film is dictated by the story that’s crafted through the speeches and content captured from your day. The sweet spot for this tends to lie at around the 8 minute mark. It’s not an exact science – but the run-time will almost always between 8 to 10 minutes. Over the years, I’ve found that this runtime is the perfect amount of time to do justice to your day, including all of the key moments – whilst maintaining a high level of creativity and story-telling.

This highlights film is often non-chronological and is designed to be highly emotive; using key moments of your day to instantly make you feel like you’re reliving it from the moment you hit play. Perfect if you’d like to share an edit online that explores your day in more depth.

This film is for couples who’d like a little more detail by extending the length of your feature film to at least 15 minutes. It uses the same techniques as the shorter version, it just simply adds more shots and details of your day as it unfolds.

EXTRAS

NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE

You may have noticed in some of my edits, that I use footage from a 90s style camcorder. This footage works best when you hand the camcorder over to a trusted member of the bridal or groom party – I find that someone who is always up for a laugh works the best! I don’t charge extra for this, but if you’d like this included please let me know.

£800

Known for its grainy textures and rich colors and undeniable charm. This option will include a reel of 8mm film shot on a Canon 514 XL camcorder. You will be provided with all of the digitally processed footage as a single video, as well as the footage being incorporated in your main films.

£80

A lot of couples choose to have a tangible keepsake. Add this to have all of your films delivered on a high quality engraved walnut USB stick, presented in a beautiful clear glass box. The USB isn’t locked so you’ll be able to make as many copies as you wish.

£700

Two cinematographers are recommended if you choose the 15-20 minute feature film package or your day is taking place over multiple locations. Having two shooters also allows us to cover both the bridal and groom preparation and means we can focus on getting more shots throughout your day – leaving you with a more detailed final film.

£500

A completely original 1 minute edit, designed for Instagram. Edited in the correct dimensions, this video will be a way to share the best moments of your day online, whilst keeping the more intimate moments private to share with your closer circle of family and friends. Head to my instagram @toastfilmsuk to see some examples of these. Please note, this is already included if you pick the 8-10 minute extended highlights package.

£500

Don’t miss anything out from your day. All of the footage that was captured during your day will be sent across on a hard drive. It’ll come as the files did straight out of the camera – with no editing or colour grading. This means they’ll be yours to do what you wish with in the future. Couples tend to choose this to give them the option to completely re-edit what I shot in the future in a different style or for a special occasion – a 10-year anniversary present perhaps!?

This will be delivered to you on an external hard drive.

FAQS

About a month before your day I’ll get in touch to arrange a video call. This is important as no wedding is the same and having a chat beforehand means that I can prep for your day, making sure I know exactly where we have to be and when.

Coverage starts from your preparations. I’ll arrive normally a couple of hours before your ceremony. Importantly I won’t get in your way or make you feel like you’re taking part in a fashion shoot; I’ll just grab some shots of all of the important stuff that’ll be happening – the pre wedding nervous excitement, champagne being popped, gifts being given out – that sort of thing.

Next, I’ll head off to your ceremony location. Regardless of whether you’re having a church service, a civil ceremony or any other type, I’ll film it using at least two cameras, but it’s normally three. Where I position myself is normally down to the registrar, celebrant or vicar – but I arrive in good time to make sure all of this is sorted. The only other ‘set-up’ that takes place during your day is your speeches. For this, I’ll make sure everyone that is doing a speech is microphoned up (using discreet lav mics) and getting a feed from the sound desk if there is one.

I’ll spend the rest of the day grabbing plenty of candid shots of your guests. I don’t like to get in people’s faces as a) it’s annoying for the guests and b) I prefer natural shots, which generally don’t happen when people are aware that they’re being filmed. I’ll also like to take you, the happy couple away for some portrait shots. I’ll do this alongside your photographer to minimise the amount of time that you’re away from your guests. The key with the couple portraits is to make you both feel at ease – so you won’t find me requesting you to do any over-the-top poses. Ultimately, it’s a nice moment where you can take 10 minutes away from your guests – and I’ll discreetly capture these moments.

I typically leave about an hour after the first dance – but only if I feel like I have enough high energy dance shots to do your day justice. If you have anything taking place on your day after this time, let me know and we can talk it through.

All films will be delivered online via a company called VidFlow. You’ll be able to download your films in full resolution directly from your gallery, as well as stream all your films on your TV be downloading an app.

Drone footage of your venue is also included in both of my packages, with no extra fee. I’m fully insured to fly legally. I always do my best to capture aerial footage, but please do be aware that sometimes I might not be able to due to matters out of our control – these include weather, air, venue and timing restrictions.

A lot of time and care is spent ensuring that I nail your edits. If you go for the 8-10 minute film option, I aim to get the main to you 3-4 months after your wedding day and the short 1 minute film a month after your day.

If you go for the 3-5 minute highlights and 15-20 minute feature film option, I aim to get your highlights film to you within six to seven weeks after your wedding day. You’ll receive your full package about 3-4 months after your wedding, however, sometimes it can take a little bit longer when I’m in the middle of the summer wedding season. You’ll never be waiting more than 5 months after your big day though!
